Position overview / Scope
Fairport Containers are looking for a commercially and financially astute transport manager. This hands-on role will report to the managing director and involve managing a mixed fleet of around 20 vehicles and drivers.
As the Transport Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Transport Department across 2 sites in Adlington and Bridgwater. These duties will include, vehicle maintenance and compliance, people planning and development, load planning and administration, accounts and financial budgeting. Responsible for a vital part of the production and supply chain process, you will manage people, processes, systems and finances to ensure our goods are dispatched and delivered on time in full (OTIF) and within budgets. You will also be responsible for all driver health and safety standards, best practice and compliance within regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Responsible for all aspects of legal compliance
Knowledge of up to date road transport legislation.
Fully compliant with driver hours and working time directive.
Management of all drivers, ensuring all health and safety requirements are adhered to, driver walk round checks are completed daily, vehicles are operated in a safe and legal manner, and Fairport Containers image and standards are followed at all times.
Main Activities
- Driver licensing checks (Every 3 months)
- Ensure driver CPC’s training up to date
- Tachograph downloads and analysis.
- Driver and Work in Time directive compliance.
- Understanding and control of OCRS scores.
- Load planning for all vehicles and stock control to aid routing
- Vehicle maintenance compliance.
- Hiring of trucks and trailers to suit the needs of the business
- Recruitment & disciplinary actions
- Interrogate fuel consumption figures & report on findings.
- Full department profit and loss responsibility.
Person profile –
Personality: Self-driven, organised, and results orientated team player. Able work well under pressure individually and with others. Must have clear focus on quality, customer service and financial expectations.

Key skills:
- Able to demonstrate significant transport experience.
- Possess CPC Qualification (International)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role
- Current LGV class 1 driving licence (Preferred)
- Financially astute able to read transport accounts.
- Ability to communicate at all levels.
- Excellent geographical knowledge
- Computer literate (Word and Excel) knowledge to a good level.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £35,000-£45,000 per year depending on experience.
