Established for over 25 years, Fairport Containers is one of the UK's leading providers of waste container refurbishment, remodelling, resale and hire services.

Company History

Since

Fairport Containers was formed in 1993 and is celebrating its 25th year in business during 2018. The company was part of the Fairport Engineering Group which was formed in 1982 by the founder, John Porter, who headed up a management team and bought a part of the Leonard Fairclough Group.

1993

Fairport Containers Ltd is part of the Fairport Holdings Group of companies, which also includes Fairport Construction Equipment, Fairport Garages, Fairport Storage and Fairport Properties.

The company name takes "Fair" from Fairclough and "Port" from Porter. It originally carried out structural steelwork and project engineering for the coal mining industry and later for the cement and quarrying industries.

Fairport Containers Ltd is a family run business, established in Chorley in June 1993. With over 25 years of experience and as the first company to offer waste container refurbishment it is well placed at the forefront of today’s industry.

Since its inception, Fairport Containers has been responsible for many innovative “industry firsts” including:

  • 1st waste container refurbishment company in the industry
  • 1st to operate an in-house transport fleet
  • 1st to install truck mounted fork-lifts on all flatbed trailers to load / unload without depot assistance
  • 1st to operate hook-lift vehicles to be able to load and unload Roll on Roll off containers without depot assistance

  • 1st to introduce mobile solutions with inflatable workshops in order to complete maintenance work onsite
  • 1st to take a forklift truck to its customer’s sites enabling the moving of containers to be maintained and refurbished, without the assistance of the customer.

Our facilities are based  in Lancashire, Buckinghamshire and Somerset. The continued growth of the company gives our customers nationwide coverage. Allowing for lower transport costs as well as reducing the carbon footprint.

Fairport has carried out many refurbishing projects for both public and private sector organisations including Biffa, Veolia, Suez (formerly Sita), Bywaters, Viridor, Amey, Slough Borough Council, Bath and North East Council, East Riding Council, Wiltshire Council, Northampton General Hospital, Rugby Council, Bolton BC, Preston Council and Aylesbury Vale Borough Council to name a few.

Fairport Containers provides customers with a unique serial numbering system. Linking the refurbishment and repair history of any individual container. Whilst coordinating convenient collection and delivery. In addition supplying photographic evidence providing the customer with full traceability.

In 2016 we completed the rebranding contract for Suez. Refurbishing all their waste containers (circa 100,000 containers nationwide), within a nine-month period. Primarily, this award was gained as a result of the recently developed software system, site working experience, specialised innovative on-site alteration and maintenance solutions equipment as well as a strong proactive management team.

The working partnership between Biffa and Fairport was set up by my predecessor and I have never had any reason to change anything, so long may it continue.
